How to calc Board Feet?

Board feet is a way to measure the volume of lumber. It’s used when buying multiple boards of lumber in different sizes. One board foot of lumber is one square foot that is one-inch thick. To calculate board feet, use this formula:

board feet = length (ft) × width (in) × thickness (in) / 12

Here, the length of the wooden board should be expressed in feet, while the width and thickness should be expressed in inches. For example, if you have a piece of hardwood that is 8 feet long, 10 inches wide, and 1.25 inches thick, the board footage per piece would be:

board feet = 8 × 10 × 1.25 / 12 = 8.33 BF

If you want to calculate the total board footage of your purchase, multiply this result by the number of pieces you want to purchase. For instance, if you want to purchase five wooden boards, the total board footage of your purchase would be:

total board footage = 8.33 × 5 = 41.67 BF
